The Story of Our Happy Couple
Julio and Krista met online back in 1998. He lived in Mexico, and she lived in the United States. They would speak briefly on occasion, as they ran into each other on the forum/chat community they both frequented.
In October 1999, they began to talk more extensively, through private IM conversations and internet talk programs.
On January 8, 2000, despite the hardships they would endure from their distance, they decided to become an official couple.
Krista took her first trip to Mexico in 2002 to visit Julio in person, and to meet his friends and family. Those two months together made them quite sure that they were meant for each other. It was hard for the couple to spend much time together in person. The expenses, Julio being unable to get a tourist visa to the US, and Krista being a single mother of 2 children would keep them apart for years at a time.
However, they were only ever separated by distance. They talked through IMs, webcam, voice chats, and/or the phone on a daily basis. Krista and her daughter, April, took a couple trips to visit in 2008 and for the winter holidays of 2009-2010. They were wonderful visits where Krista and her daughter got to know Julio's family better, and her daughter got to better know and connect with Julio face to face. After returning from the last visit in Jan. 2010, Julio and Krista decided they did not want to/could not wait years between visits any longer. They had been missing out on living a happy family life together in person, where they belonged, and the way it should be. They decided it was time to plan the wedding, and they filed the necessary immigration papers on May 26, 2010 to get the ball rolling towards a fall/winter wedding date.
Julio had his K-1 Fiance Visa interview in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico on September 21, 2010, and was approved. He arrived in the U.S. on October 26, 2010. (Incidentally, the first time they ever laid eyes on each other face to face was their first meeting in person on October 26, 2002)
They were married on December 12, 2010, and filed the Adjustment of Status immigration paperwork on January 25, 2011. The newly married couple had an interview in Jacksonville, FL on May 18, 2011, and Julio received his 2 year Green Card in the mail on May 26th. It took exactly one year from the time the initial petition was sent, to when he had his Green Card physically in his hand.
The couple is done with USCIS immigraton paperwork until Julio decides to file for U.S. Citizenship. He received his 10 year Green Card in 2013.
